Larissa De Jesús Negrón (b. Puerto Rico, 1994) is a Puerto Rican multidisciplinary artist whose practice investigates the relationship between food, the body, nature, and cultural identity. Through surreal landscapes, symbolic imagery, and references to Puerto Rican history, she examines how everyday rituals such as cooking, eating, and caring for the body carry emotional, political, and ancestral meaning. Her work explores the ways personal experience intersects with collective memory, using painting as a space to reconsider history through a contemporary lens.
Working primarily with airbrushed acrylic, oil paint, and mixed media, Larissa creates dreamlike compositions where the female body, water, and natural elements become recurring symbols of vulnerability, transformation, desire, grief, and renewal. Her paintings function as portals into interior worlds, reflecting the instability and fluidity of emotional states.
After nine years living and working in New York, Larissa returned to Puerto Rico, a transition that has significantly shaped her recent practice. Her current body of work examines migration, displacement, belonging, and return through surreal landscapes that reflect the contradictions of leaving and coming home.
Larissa’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Anna Zorina Gallery (New York), Nicodim Gallery (Los Angeles), Guts Gallery (London), L21 Gallery (Spain), and Harkawik (New York). She has participated in international art fairs and exhibitions including NADA Miami, The Armory Show, Untitled Art Fair Miami, KIAF Seoul, and Salón Acme Mexico City. In 2024, she was a guest teaching artist at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. She has completed artist residencies with L21 Gallery in Mallorca, Spain and Regular Normal Gallery in Mexico City. She currently lives and works in Puerto Rico.
